We are using Florel to reduce fruit production to conserve energy. In theory this energy would then be available to regenerate roots damaged in construction area. I was wondering if anyone else was utilizing similar procedures?

I have also heard that some people are using growth regulators to redirect energy to the roots of trees. One product is Profile that reduces the elongation of cells thus reducing the length of new growth. Would this also reduce the length on new roots?

Paul:

I believe that this stategy is right, although I have not seen any research that would prove it. I keep encouraging Bill Chaney to research the relationship between "Profile" (a TGR) an its effect on stored carbohydrates, but he hasn't followed up yet. At the ISA Symposium in Birmingham, England, Bill Chaney reported finding a water conservation benefit from TGR's. More people may be studying the TGR's in the future to address the possible benefits they may have to tree health prescriptions. I have not heard any research about Florel and its effect on carbohydrates, etc., but I believe it must make these resources available for other growth or storage requirements.

Best Wishes,

Bill Graham
