I have never use Merit for Pine Shoot Moth however, I can attest that Merit works very well when used with a "sticker".

I have used Dimilin for Pine Shoot Moth with very good success. It also has a lengthy residual activity so application times are flexible. We are in North Texas and deal with it on Afghan or Desert Pine. Applications are made here in mid to late Feb. with our Pines beginning to candle about early to mid March depending on environment. It can only be used once per year so if the pest cycles more frequently than that in your area you might have to alternate materials.

Merit would seem logical for this type of pest. I have been using more and more Merit for a variety of problems. I will report our success later this year if interested. Russ.

Thanks, let us know wether its foliar or soil app and best timing. I understand Merit translocates slowly so efficacy is increased the earlier the soil app is done. I thik bayer is recomending fall aplications so the product will be in the tissue at bud break on birches.
