there is an 1/2" insect eating my pussywillow tree. the leaves become transparent. could you please help me thanks.

Perhaps you can get a lead from the section on damaging agents at the site linked below. If you capture the insects, you should be able to get an ID from your agricultural extension, or perhaps look it up in an insect book.
Often severe leaf feeding is only a temporary setback for some trees. It is when they are repeatedly attacked that they may become seriously depleted in stored food reserves. Some insects have a limited life cycle, so don't repeat their damage many times during the same year.
