Since we may well loose this class of broadspectrom insecticide, has any one found a good replacement for Orthene. Its the best I've found for plantbug control.

A few companies here in the MKE area tried Merit (it's labled for leafhopper, not plantbug) on Gleditstia with little sucsess. While largely an aesthetic problem, it is a big concern in these parts. people dont like the way they look with the curled leaves and witches brooming in bad cases..

Check label for your state... I have found that many of the synthetic pyrithrerns (oops)like Tempo-II and Astro work quite well. (be sure to use with a sticking agent)I have not tried pyrenone yet but it is worth a shot(again if it is labled).

Lindane is labeled for use on locust species and is effective on both plantbugs and leafhoppers. Like the pyrethroids it also kills a number of beneficials and repeated use can predispose trees to mite infestastions.
