Has anyone used the Wedgle Tip and Wedgechek to apply insecticides, fungicides, or micronutrients? If so, how did you find it to work? Did you for example get any leakage of liquids? Does the success vary for tree species, thickness of bark, time of day, time of year etc?

I have spoken to some people that love them, but the faculty at MATC have had problems with the tips breaking/bending, ampules breaking, and product squirting back out of the hole when the needle is pulled out. They dont recomend it.

I have heardf that trugreens test facility in ohio had similar experiance.

The few who like them say that they have had similar experiances but the ase of use and suposed low wounding far outweigh the drawbacks.

Also arborsytems told MATC that they have a fix almost ready fro the squirting problem.

Thickness of bark is a crucial factor. Trees with bark less than 1/4" can not be successfully injected with this method. Trees with very thick bark are difficult to inject as wedge checks fail to seal with the thick bark. Leakage is common in all cases.

Mechanical wounding to the tree is minimal, but the concentrated chemicals may still cause necrosis of adjacent tissues.

Unless the technology is improved significantly, I do not recommend this device.

Arbor Systems can be reached at 1-800-698-4641. I have tried their system on White alder, Tulip, and Evergreen ash,,, i have had varying success on each of the tree species. The best success came when the injection was done prior to leaf emergence. Since i work in a city enviorment in most cases spraying is not an option. I realize that you are wounding the tree, however, in my situation i have to find a way to midigate the problem for homeowners short of removing the tree.

Since the last commentary - May 12, 2000 - has anyone had good or bad experience with the Arborsystems injection system?
