there are so many possible factors to consider that you really need to get an arborist to inspect the tree |

Check the back of the leaves. You probably have the disease that is going around and causing all of the Eucalyptus trees in Southern California to defoliate. Apparently the problem is solvable by injecting the trunk with a systemic pesteside. The ideal time to do this is when the tree is putting out new leaves around March and April. In the meantime be sure the tree is getting plenty of water. I have approximately ten trees that are effected and I will be treating mine next week and then again next Spring. Most of the trees in Southern California are suffering from this pest which apparently came from Astralia or New Zeland. The City of Los Angeles will tell you there is nothing that can be done and they ae letting many of the old growth trees in our area die because they are afraid of the "P" word! If you don't treat the tree you will probably loose it. My source is John Magazino, Certified Arborist at National Pest Control, 818-984-3670 |
