I have several large maples-sugars and reds thats bark is splitting and peeling. the bark is beginning to look like a shagbark hickory. Also they are being invaded by some kind of borer. Does anyone know this bark to disease and a solution?

There could be several causes of this condition. It may be a disease, an insect pest or some environmental or physiological problem. I suggest you contact a local arborist to get an onsite inspection.
