You would do well to know what kind of "Hickory" you have. The link provided below is to a site that deals with native forest species of trees. My guess is that you are seeing a gall-forming fungus or insect effect. You should be able to find good advice locally, especially if your tree is a local native type. I don't know much about hickories and their diseases, but galls of some kinds on other trees are usually insignificant.(cosmetic) Here is another site, referring to leaf galls on various hickories caused by insects. http://www.caes.state.ct.us/PlantPestHandbookFiles/pphH/pphhick.htm |
