Have 80 foot 3 trunk beech. Noting some small branches with brown leaves (about 2-5% of foliage). Otherwise, tree in great health. Should I do anything? Any concern?

Also, cavity near base where (between)3 trunks emerge collects debris, water about 2 feet deep. Should I keep that clean or drain it as there is lots of decaying within the stagnant pool of water?

Thanks for any suggestions/assistance

1. If brown leaves are on outside it's dying back or otherwise in trouble; call a local arborist. www.isa-arbor.com If they're on the inside of the tree that's due to shade; don't worry.

2. If pool of water between trunks is 2' deep, how do you know there's decay at the bottom; have you reached down there? It's not a bad idea to scoop out the water and decaying litter, but it's a horrible idea to drill into the wood to drain the water.

Beeches need a wide mulched root zone to stay healthy; very sensitive to moisture and other stress. hope this helps
