As a certified arborist, I have noticed an increase in the Eriophyid Mite (white pine sheath mite) on white pines. It has defoliated several limbs on large white pines and yellowed several smaller ones. I have been able to control it so far with horticultural oil and avid. I think it is going to be a problem here in Delaware. Any other people noticing this, or any comments on the subject. Thanks John

The mites are widespead in the Delaware / SE Pennsylvania area. I see a lot of damage, with chlorosis of the needles in winter and early spring being most prominent. Stunting and dieback may result from heavy infestations. Look now for the mites between needles within the fascicle sheath.
