At the country club where I work we have some 75-100 y/o Ostrya v. that have been diagnosed, tested, and are being treated for Spheropsis (or however it is spelled). We have some P. sylvestris near by that would account for the innfection.

My theory is that since these old (?) trees are near the clubhouse, out in the sun and in turfm they are being stressed enough to get this unusual problem.

My questions are, since I cannot get a mulch bed in under these trees, would small woody plantings to shade the turf some help? radial trench with an airspade? Are they endo/ecto mycorrhizal obligate?
