A very odd, almost tropical like insect has taken hold and killed my tree. It is shaped like a tiny cricket, but is red and black with wings. Some even have a bee like abdomen. They are all over the dying tree ad come out of it's trunk. How can I stop them from getting to the next tree and what the heck are they? Southern New Jersey location.

This doesn't sound like anything I've heard of on the Callery pear cultivars. Any chance you can email or send me a picture of the bug? It may be just a coincidence that this is a harmless insect on a tree dying for other reasons.

You might want to find a competent local arborist to you figure out what the problem is and what needs to be done.
