In Tools & Techniques, (#535), Scott mentioned a LEGO robot with a camera mounted on it, and I suggested a wireless remote. It's available and it's affordable.

This little camera is the size of your thumb (plus a 9-volt battery), transmits 200 feet to a dedicated receiver or a VCR/TV. I can see using this for remote inspections, if the image quality is good enough.
