I am in the market for a new chipping truck, and
I am looking for ideas and suggestions. What I would like:
30+ yard capacity, the agility of a 1 ton truck with
4 wheel drive with automatic transmission. Flotation tires
in front, very short wheelbase for maneuverability,
My chipper is just heavy enough (Vermeer 1800)that
it will bog down a truck on a lawn or soft area with
out 4 wheel drive. Thought about a tandem axle with
locking differential. Very expensive new. What would you
buy if you were in my shoes? Dream. All your ideas
and suggestions greatly appreciated.

Lenny

I'm guessing you already know that what you want does not exist. An agile, 1 ton 4x4 is on one end of a scale and a tandem axle beast capable of hauling 30 yards is on the other. I'd also guess that those big flotation tires will reduce your turning radius a little.

The big picture considerations are budget, licensing issues as well as insurance and, maintenance on a BIG truck and the kind of work you do. Maybe you need two trucks. Compare the costs of more frequent dumping of a smaller truck with the real costs of a larger one.
