I recently bought some small, extendable Corona garden hand tools that are handy for root crown inspection and excavation. I don't know if they're new, but I found a display rack containing a trowel spade, a miniture hoe, a small four-tined hard rake and an undersized flexible-tine leaf rake. Each extend to 32 inches and fit easily into my tree inspection tool bag. The extendable hard-tine rake is especially useful for pulling ivy away from the base of a trunk to expose the root flares. Has anyone else tried these?
