Subject: [TT] urban trees for timber To: TREETOWN@LSV.UKY.EDU
Ok, I'm new to the group so I may have missed some relevant threads (although I did briefly check out the log for '99). My name is Sean Brady and I work with a company here in Edinburgh (Scotland) called Lothian Trees and Timber. We are essentially a hardwood sawmill, our being to promote the appropriate management of small woodlands for their amenity, conservation and timber value (we see no conflict between these three).
As part of out operation we take in a number of city trees and are now in the process of forming an association with the local council to convert elms that have been felled due to Dutch Elm Disease, into utilisable timber. Our overall aim is to encourage an urban forest policy whos management objectives embraces the afore mentioned goals of conservation, amenity and timber.
Does anyone out there have any experience in the management of urban forests for timber. If so I'd like to hear from you.
Regards, Sean Brady.
