It's awfully quiet here. So what about that decoder ring in one of the posts about sentience? Maybe somebody can get a NUCFAC grant to work on it. No more destructive testing, just ask the tree the extent of internal decay.

The downside? It would then be subjective evidence (provided by the subject) rather than objective (measured by the expert). See Black's Law Dictionary.

I think they are working on it. I seem to remember an article in TCI with conceptual drawings.

In the last issue of the Journal of Arboriculture there was a run down of the various tree decay testing tools. Gave the pluses and minuses of all the tools that I have ever heard about, and more.

Worth a read. Of course you are an ISA member aren't you? And you did get the Journal? Just overlooked the article!
