My beautiful sugar maples are deteriorating rapidly. The bark is coming off some places in patches, there is a lot of deadwood, too. I have received conflicting information about the cause of the problem. One person told me that the trees required a fungicide, another said that this was the result of roots "suffocating" the tree and would require roots to be cut. Can anyone offer suggestions? We believe that this problem probably needs to be addressed before the leaves come out. Thanks!
