I have a 29 year old sycamore tree that was hit at the base of the tree by lightning last week. I don't know how badley it was damaged on the inside. It is my favorate tree and shades half of the front yard. Is there anything I can do to save it? There is a hole about 5 inches high and 1/4 inch wide. There are bugs getting into the hole. What is the best thing to patch it with or am I just waisting my time trying to fight a lost cause?

Hi: My Brother's tree in the backyard was hit by lightning also, all or most of bark is somewhat seperated from tree, but was not pulled or dropped off of it. I too would like an answer to this problem, His tree provides major shading in the late afternoon when sun sits in the West.
