I had an evergreen tree of unknown type in my
back yard which wasgood for hundreds of barrels
of leaves a year, was dangerously
overhanging a greenhouse and was mixing in with
various utility lines. I've cut it from 50'down
to 9'. One of the three main trunk branches has
a large hollow in it. I am trimming that trunk down near the ground and wonder if there are any procedures advisable at this point. Do I fill the hollow in this approximately 20" diameter trunk with cement? Also, one of the remaining 9' trunks is showing the begining of hollowing at that height and I assume said cavity will expand as the trunk approaches the ground. I would like to let the 2 remaining trunks resume very controlled growth at this time but any advice on wiser options is appreciated.
Thank all in advance for your time and consideration.

Regards,

Ed

Go ahead, keep cutting, maybe at some point you might question the corellation between cutting and decay. Filling with cement would be a bad idea. When you finally decide that your sole option is removal, it will dull your chain!
You have punished the tree well enough already, why not put it out of it's misery now??

The wisest option is to find out what kind of tree it is so we all know what you're working with. Some evergreens will sprout from the base, some won't.

Letting the poor thing start over again if it can is often the best option. Next time, before you touch a saw have a plan. Trees can be pruned to fit around wires and greenhouses if the pruner knows what he is doing.
