I have dozens of established white oaks , red oaks and chestnut white oaks. I would like the cheapest most eficient way to increase the acorn crop this next fall. Can I use basic fertilizers (what type) from discount stores? Is there a formula for how much to use? like so much per inch of trunk? What is the application method? SHould I apply it now for this falls crop? Thanks

If you really want to produce acorns you should not fertilize and not water. Trees are programmed genetically to survive, when they are put under stress, they will produce a large seed crop in order to ensure survival of the species. Might not be real good for the tree, but that is another issue. James

Go to the link below and follow Hardwoods to Quercus list and read about seed production.
Generally, acorn production is highly variable.
I don't think there is any way to guarantee higher production in a particular year.
I assume you may be interested in acorns as feed?
Perhaps a local agricultural advisor may have information on managing acorn forage.
