I saw a evergreen tree in the Botanical Garden in Ft Bragg Ca this weekend, and no one there seemed to know anything about it. It was about 12ft. tall, very unusual and very beautiful and was obviously an evergreen, and the name on the tag was podocarpcea. I have not been able to find any information on this tree. Can anyone give my any clues as to where I can find out about it or if it is available commercially?

R Jay

Podocarpaceae is a plant family not a plant. You could run a search on "Podocarpus" which is the genus and then you have around 20 likely species in that genus. Maybe if you have a good lirary near you they may have some illustrated plant books. Good Luck,

James.

There are many image resources on the internet and in books, as James stated.
Without seeing the plant in question however, it is not possible to identify it from the vague description you gave.

I have been to the Medocino Coast Botanical Garden many times. My retired parents have been volunteers there for many years.
I do not know of the particular specimen which interests you, but I am sure it must be accounted for in the plant accession database.
Perhaps you could correspond with the MCBG to inquire about the particulars. It would help, of course, to have a map of the garden, so that you could pinpoint the location of that specimen.
You might also inquire to find out if the Garden has a procedure for making inquiries during visits, in case an expert gardener is not available at the time.
