In SE Pennsylvania, some beast is stripping the bark off my prized Dawn Redwood to 6 ft. off the ground. Candidates: Deer? Not Squirrels; Woodchucks climb? HELP!

I'm having the same problem. It was explained to me that squirrels are the main cause. They clean and sharpen their claws. I have two gray squirrels that are doing the damage. They will pick a tree with the least amount of limbs. That's why only one of my trees is being hit. It can eventually kill the tree. I'm still trying to get an answer on what to due. If anyone has a solution, please let me know. If I receive any information, I'll post it. |

Well, I found a way. IÂm using a live trap. IÂve trapped two so far. Hopefully these are the ones causing the problems. I made sure to put the trap in a location where they seem to be most active. The trap is made out of wire mesh with a flat peace of metal in the middle that holds up the door. At first I put Sun Flower seeds in the back of the trap and that didnÂt seem to help. So I put whole walnuts shells, half walnut shells and pecans in the trap and close to the opening. This seemed to do the trick. It was also explained to me that you need to relocate them a least five mile away. Hope this helps. |
