We have recently planted bare-root Quercus Garryana, into the ground, and into deep containers. The trees were dug deeply, so there were long tap roots left. The question is this: we have been advised not to water them AT ALL. I know these guys are somewhat xeric in nature; mediterranean climate and all, but it goes against all my instincts not to give them SOME summer water, at least 'til they're established. Thoughts.. suggestions...? General pulpit pounding..?
