When are the acceptable times to prune Spruce and Fir trees. The owners have planted ~75 trees in areas where they need are in need of height and girth control. I've checked all my notes, books and web sites and can't seem to find anything except 'remove half the candles in early summer'. Is this true? Is it the only time I can prune? What about during dormancy? Will they recover from someone else's hack job? What should I avoid so I won't ruin all these beautiful trees? Thank you. Dan

Thanks Mark, It's exactly what I was looking for to add to my notes.
