In the 23 years I have been gawking around trees in Houston, Texas, I have noticed that Spanish moss (Tillandsia usenoides) is decreasing, and ball moss (T. recurvata) is becoming more prevalent.
I suspect it's due to air pollution, but I don't know. Has anyone seen a website dealing with this question? Even the huge Texas A+M University Aggie Horticulture site doesn't seem to have the answer.
The question was recently asked of me in an Air Quality meeting.
Thanks
