In Santa Fe last week (Jan.) I noticed a (deciduous) tree covered with clusters of seed pods. I've searched online, to no avail; I found several Ash to be similar, but not a match. There is one seed per pod, resembling a tiny lentil, in a parchament-like pod that is 1-1/4"x1/4," twisted at the bottom. The seed is approx 2/3 of the way down the pod, with a small indent in the pod's edge at the seed, like one side of an "8". Pods are linked in a pair, with another pair mirror-imaged on its stem. *Many* of these sets form clumps 6" or so tall, covering the 15'-20' tree. A saw one other tree a block away, but noticed none out in the countryside, beyond the city, so I'm assuming it's exotic. I'm an artist, not an arborist, so any help in ID would be gratefully received.
