We live in the wet NW and have a beautiful Beech tree that is about 50-60 feet tall, at least 50 years old. It has always seemed vital and healthy and suddenly, in late July , every single leaf has turned brown and dropped off.It was after a short hot spell, but we had a very wet Spring and early Summer. I see no signs of insects or virus on the dead leaves and we have not excavated anywhere in the yard. It looks like the tree just stopped taking up water?? I hate to cut it down if there's a chance it might return in the Spring. Does anyone have any ideas?

I would suggest getting some one in to undertake an inspection. Could be you have a root disease problem,

James.
