My husband and I recently moved. On our lot is a honeylocust whose age I would estimate to be 35-40 yrs. It is splitting pretty much in half. I would like to save the tree if possible. Is there some way this can be accomplished? Is it worth it? What would be the best solution?

Hi Sonja,

Congratulations on your new home! It may be possible to cable the tree together. It all depends on why the tree is splitting and if it has become diseased or not. A certified arborist would need to look at it to determine. Get references for similar work and check them to see how satisfied the customer is. Try and get references for this type of work that was done 3 or 4 years ago.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
