This issue Vol 22 No 4 arrived recently (they are behind a few months).
1. An extensive list of papers on "tree roots asnd buildings" with an even more extensive bibliography
2. Soil movement and water potentials in trees growing in expansive clay soils by Mark Stewart and Roger Sands. A technical article from Australia.
3. The interactions of tree roots and sewers: the Swedish experience, by Orjan Stal. Good article. The risk of root intrusion is most likely due to faulty workmanship, connections between 2 different pipe types, connections between pipes, manholes, inspection chambers, and joints between chamber rings and manhole covers and frames. Author has strategies to reduce or solve this widespread problem.
4. The mechanical survival strategy of trees by C. Mattheck and K. Bethge. Nothing new here; a re-hash plus social commentary. I am not sure why it was published.
5. Four different reviews on Tree Root Damage to Buildings. Vol. 1 : Causes, Diagnosis and Remedy. Vol.2, Patterns of Soil Drying in Proximity to Trees on Clay Soil. This seems to be a big problem in England.
6. 3 other books reviewed. 33 pages reviewing other publications relevant to arboriculture. Quite a valuable resource, this Journal. They don't seem to have a website. This journal can usually be found in University libraries.
