They reproduce the atlas maps originally available in Little's Atlas of Trees published in the 1970's. In addition are graphs and tables of climatic data associated with the species distribution. Such as: Annual Precipitation vs. July Temperature January Temperature vs. July Temperature January Precipitation vs. July Precipitation Mean Temperature of Coldest Month vs. Growing Degree days on 5 degree C base. Actual Evaporation/Potential Evaporation This publication will be of interest to any garden or arboretum involved in tree ecological or physiological research. This atlas will be must useful in obtaining a more complete concept of 'hardiness zones' as in includes other environmental factors influencing distribution other than winter temperature. They are for sale ($63.00 USD) by the: USGS, Information Services Box 25286 Federal Center Denver, CO 80225 or online at: http://www.greenwood.cr.usgs.gov/pub/ppapers/p1650-a http://www.greenwood.cr.usgs.gov/pub/ppapers/p1650-b The online version is free.
