Hey Russ --

Did you realize that when advertising information is at the top of each page (such as now for Fungal Strategies and Tree Shadows) that it means that every time the viewer clicks to a message s/he is required to scroll down to see the post? Can't advertised items be placed on one page only, whichever is relevant, or jsut the home page for each section, so posted messages are visible and the advertising is not? (Am I the only one annoyed by this?)

No Dr. Bond, you're not the only one. I wasn't going to bother Russ, but as long as you've got the ball rolling.... maybe banners just on the topics page. Or topic specific banners smaller up with the "help" link?

I have been visiting this site for some years now! And have found a comraderie of interests, information, and associates although some of us may never meet.

So, Scott, James and Jerry correct my misunderstanding (If such), is this site NOT financed and provided by Russ? Who besides him tends to the management of this site? Personally, I have appreciated this venue to which I have had nothing to invest other than a few words.

James, you mentioned payment of $100, maybe your suggestion should be in the form of another link for additional business logos. However is $100 a fair value for the added time and accountablility demanded upon Russ?

I am not now nor will I be offended by Russ's advertising in the future. It is his site! a guestbook is provided and is the appropiate place to which you may want to advertise on HIS site.

If you fill cheated or wish to compete, why not start your own message boards! You may soon appreciate the value of time!

Jerry, I have requested in the past as have others for changes to the site to expediate new posts mainly for my conveinence.

So guys, unless I am totally ignorant to the ownership of this site. "me thinketh thou doest complain to much" and should instead show gratitude for the means of communication.
Personally, I do not associate the context, content or character of the message board with Russ's Business.

Lastly, I live on the west coast and Do not know Russ personally.

Hope this has not offended any of you. But if you wish to take ofFence take the gate with it.

Well, I don't mind Russ's banners at all. It's just scrolling past them to read every topic that's a PITA (technical term, use your imagination).

Now you see we've created a problem for poor Russ. Being the inquisitive type he will burrow in to crafting an elegant software solution to this problem. His family will see less of him this Summer. Billing might suffer. But the world will be a better place.

As an aside Russ clearly discloses that he might make a few pennies on book sales. Hopefully a little more on software sales. I doubt either of those will pay much college tuition (maybe another PDA or some other gadget [Smile] ). No, Russ mostly uses the banner spaces for PSA's.... upcoming events, etc. At his own time and expense. Either way, it's cool. As Stephen said it's his space.

To clarify: 1) I have no problem with Russ doing some advertising; 2) I think his site is terrific; 3) I was just asking whether there was a way for the advertising not to continually block the post. Could it be in a frame, for instance, or just along one side?

Stephen, would you please point out where in my post I made any kind of complaint. I do not think you read it. By the way some times people make light hearted tongue in cheek remarks. I do not see we all need to take every word and remark seriously. As far as taking offense is concerned, I think you are the one guilty of that!!

James.

I was kinda tired of pushing a key to scroll down all the time so I got one of those mice that have a scroll wheel built right in.

Just move my finger from the left button to the center wheel....

It's an IR mouce too, so after some 15 years of taking them part once a month to clean the gunk out of the rollers, it is no linger needed.

Jerry,

I think this post significantly and positively states your request.

So what do ya think Russ? I am inclined to agree.

James,

I was not offended by any of the posts. However, I was concerned of the negatitive tones all three responses combined were beginning to imply.

I don't know maybe its just me but Jerry's second response seems more proactive than the initial thread post!

Besides, I have benefited from Russ's efforts, so why not show some gratitude.

By the way since your not offended can I get the gate back?

Scott,

I also have found scrolling to be a PITA, especially since I updated my computer (Speedy Gonzales has possesed my mouse). Maybe after several years its time to see a new format. Since Russ will be most likely be contemplating all this, what about addressing the indication of what topics have had recent activity (posts).

All I did was suggest that Russ do a little software tinkering, which is one of his favorite things anyway. Now YOU guys want him to buy the whole darn ISP to install all new BB software!

Well, there's an easier fix than having Russ rework the BB. Go to your settings and slow down the scroll rate. I can never find it the same way twice but it should be in your tool kit somewhere.
