It is time! The board has grown a bit large, and the size is apparentaly affecting the access and operation for some users.

Beginning soon, I will be deleting older threads from the various topics. All threads since January of this year will be kept for now, only older messages will be deleted.

All deleted files have been saved and archived. I am considering options to make the archives available, and would greatly appreciate any suggestions or comments on how they would be most useful and useable.

There are two main options- 1. Text files; smaller downloads (though still rather large), but searchable only to the extent your text edditor can handle. 2. A database file that will operate as an independent application. This will be able to follow the threads individually, perform searches, etc.

I would appreciate any comments, as to whether any of this is even germane, in your opinion. Please respond with your ideas.

Russ It seems to me that the database route might the best for my purposes, giving me more scope to interview it and trace down threads to the topic that I required.

I think what I will try to do is a little of both- text files and a database template. You could download both, and import the text file into the template for use. That way you control which sections, and maybe save a few megs of space on stuff you don't need.

Does anybody worry about download or disk size anymore? With T3 and DSL lines, and hard drives of 56+ Gigs, does it matter anymore?
