A client of mine wants to place an addition to her house in proximity to two 24" dbh redwood trees. The trees have roots nested together (trunk faces are within 24" of each other) The proposed addition will require trenching for foundations within the dripline yet 12'-6" away from the nearest trunk face. Is the proposed proximity posing too high a risk for the health of these trees? I'd appreciate any feedback on root protection should any be encountered during trenching. Are there other mitigating measure, precautions, or follow-up required to maintain tree health after construction?
