A specification that I recently read required "Unique-Mat terramat by Unique Tire Recycling" to be used where vehicles would drive over root zones, plus " a layer of organic matter sufficiently deep to avoid soil compaction"-
OR approved equal.
Terramats are expensive and costly to ship. My reading is that they perform as a preventative to soil erosion, and to vehicles getting stuck- in other words, to prevent mud in the tires and ruts.
I would prefer to put down a porous fabric, then about 12 inches of wood chips, held in at the sides by a concrete form, and to renew the depth as needed. A top layer of chain link fence should prevent sinking of vehicles, and therefore, ruts. Your thoughts would be appreciated, as always. Peter
