We obviously need to start collecting more data on failed trees. But what information do we need? Starting a database on the net is easy enough, but the data must be meaningful. Can we accept it from everyone with an interest? Only pre-qualified persons? How is this data collection to be controlled?

What data would you collect? Let's get specific here, and figure out what is needed to construct a reliable resource.

Location
Species
Diameter
Failure type
Failure part

I would think that the first step in determining the type and quality for your data input, you would want to predetermine the potential end use for the data. General reference or Technical/Legal for instance. At any rate it sounds like a project of value.
