POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION: Research Associate or Research Fellow - Forest Genetics/Tree Physiology LOCATION: College of Natural Resources, Department of Forest Resources, Grand Rapids, Minnesota. AVAILABLE: March 15, 2000. APPOINTMENT: Full time. Annually renewable based on performance. Theposition reports to the faculty project leader for forest genetics. SALARY: $35,000-$50,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications. DUTIES: The successful candidate will be part of a team working on the improvement of aspen and larch for the Aspen/Larch Genetics Cooperative. Primary duties involve the analysis of quantitative data and / or investigation of factors related to early seedling development. Interest lies in both native species and hybrids. Additional duties include cooperator liaison, participation in the planning, implementation, and analysis for laboratory, greenhouse, and field experiments, field crew supervision, research outreach, proposal development, and publication. Additional duties as assigned. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. or M.S. degree (at time of appointment) in forestry with an emphasis on quantitative genetics or seedling physiology. A Ph.D. will qualify for a research associate position. M.S. will qualify for a research fellow position. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with northern forest species, statistical analysis, breeding programs, and tree improvement cooperatives. Demonstrated ability to write scientific papers / technical reports, and an ability to communicate with a diverse clientele also preferred.
