I as a climber, have recently worked in australia and found there to be a lack of good climbers available.I found no problems in obtaining work and was phoned 4 times with job offers whilst working. It's not to say that the climbers in oz are not proffessional, far from it! There are not enough out there to cope with the job demands.I suppose Iam offering words of encouragement to those who are toying with the idea.just do it!!!!

Hello all,

I hope someone can assist me in my enquiry. My family and I are
considering moving to Western Australia, and are looking at the Perth area. Naturally my main concern is work opportunities. I hold a Higher National
Diploma in Arboriculture and Urban Woodland Management, which I obtained in
1996. Since then I have worked as a climber undertaking all aspects of tree
surgery, and for the last 4 years I have been a local authority tree
officer. This involves managing the councils tree and woodland cover in
terms of maintenance and replanting programmes, representing the council in
appeal and insurance cases, Administering tree preservation orders and
enforcement issues when these are breached, advising the planning department
on sites involving trees and landscaping schemes as well as liasing with the
public and contractors regarding the boroughs open spaces, woodlands and
community projects. I also act as a consultant on tree related issues on a
private basis, offering advice and guidance to developers, home owners and
other local authorities on tree care and best practice. I would be grateful
if you could advise me as to whether or not these skills would put me in a
position to gain employment, and if retraining would have to be considered.
I would appreciate any information you may be able to provide.

Thank you for you time

Andy Day
